Glowy, DIY Makeup for Summer

Skin Food 1If you’ve been following me on Instagram you know that I’ve been playing around with making me own, naturally moisturizing makeup products. It all started with finally trying Weleda’s Skin Food moisturizer.

This cult classic cream comes from a European company that is known for their killer, all-natural products. But Skin Food is definitely their most well-known and is famous for being a go-to in every makeup artist’s bag of tricks. It’s a thick cream that can help even the driest, most hopeless skin and is safe to use anywhere from your feet to face to lips.

One of the first things I noticed when using it as a heavy, nighttime facial moisturizer, apart from its herby scent, is that it’s quite shiny on the skin. That made sense considering that I’ve read some people use it as a natural highlighter. This idea made me want to take it to the next level, so I decided to add some crushed up shimmery eye shadow to it in hopes of creating a beautiful, moisturizing highlighter that would remain shiny even after it all soaked into my skin.

Long story short, it worked! I love the way it looks so much that I decided to experiment with some other makeup.

In all, I’ve concocted 4 different naturally hydrating & glowy makeup products that are absolutely perfect for summer. My favorite so far though is probably the tinted lip balm but here’s the basic formulas for each:

  • DIY Blush – Weleda Skin Food + Milani Baked Blush in Dolce Pink
  • DIY Highlighter – Weleda Skin Food + Stila eye shadow in a rose gold tone
  • DIY Eye Shadow – Weleda Skin Food + Pop Beauty Pure Pigment in Metallic Copper
  • DIY Tinted Lip Balm – Weleda Skin Food + Laura Mercier Velour Lover in Happy

Skin Food 2The sky is the limit when it comes to colors and it’s a great way to sheer down any products you already have that are a little too intense for regular use. Not to mention powder-based products you have that have broken apart. Plus you have total control of how sheer they look based on how much Skin Food you add.

My favorite part is that they’re all super easy to apply & blend with my fingers, which I often find is better than brushes or sponges anyway. This look took about 5 minutes to create & I dig it because it’s fresh, natural and oh so glowy! And I can feel good about the fact that each one has legitimately moisturizing benefits thanks to the Skin Food.

OK so who’s inspired to start making their own makeup concoctions??

Other products used in this makeup look:

  • Tonymoly Luminous Pure Aura CC Cream
  • Glossier Perfecting Skin Tint
  • Dr. Jart BB Cream as concealer
  • Benefit They’re Real Tinted Lash Primer
